CACC, Auburn Team Up On Culinary Degrees

Business Alabama reports that Coastal Alabama Community College (CACC), which has its main campus in Bay Minette, and Auburn University have signed a culinary science agreement that will allow CACC students to take courses toward a new Bachelor of Culinary Science Degree at Auburn. Taking advantage of Auburn’s 142,000-ft2 under-construction culinary instruction facility, the complex will provide students in hospitality and culinary sciences with hands-on learning. The partnership follows several years of CACC/Auburn agreements in hospitality and event planning focused on pathways toward associate’s degrees in Applied Science, but this is the first for pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in the culinary field. Only one other degree like Auburn’s is available statewide: through the University of North Alabama (UNA) in Florence. A culinary arts agreement between UNA and CACC is expected to be announced later this year. CACC is also developing courses to complement an apprenticeship program recently created by the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce. More than 140 area students have signed up for the program. Credits from it may be used toward culinary degrees at Auburn and UNA.
