Career Tech High School Considered In Novelis Decision

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — WKRG recently reported that the sustainable aluminum rolling and recycling provider Novelis Inc., which is investing $2.5 billion to build a new low-carbon recycling and rolling plant in Bay Minette, saw the decision as more attractive because of the planned standalone career tech high school in Robertsdale (BBN #93). The school “may have been a game-changer” to ensure a workforce pipeline for companies like Novelis, the report said. Additionally, the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance is “now talking about career tech education as a long-term workforce pipeline building initiative K-12 school system,” said Lee Lawson, the alliance’s director. Site preparation at the 50-acre plot is approximately 80% complete, and plans are to have the building contractor begin work immediately after preparation completion. The school will accept 10th-12th grade students from across the county and is expected to open by fall 2024.
