Charter Schools Continue Enrollment Increase

More students have shifted to public charter schools for a second consecutive year, bringing statewide enrollment back to pre-pandemic levels, AL.com reports. Charter schools continue to grow, while traditional county and city schools have lost enrollment. The tuition-free public schools are given flexibility from chosen regulations in exchange for greater accountability for student achievement. There is only one charter school in Mobile, ACCEL ACADEMY, but according to the Alabama Public Charter School Commission, a new one has been approved to open for the next school year. Covenant Academy of Mobile, described as being sponsored by a nonprofit organization at 4568 Halls Mill Road, is to be a K-12 school with a vision “to empower all students to take ownership of their learning, so they are prepared for success as leaders in a globalized world.”
