Exploreum Included In GOMESA Grant

Gov. Kay Ivey and Commissioner Blankenship recently announced that the Exploreum Science Center in Mobile would be included in the 2024 round of Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA)-funded projects, The Business View reported. Of the $30,399,911 in statewide funding, the Exploreum is set to receive $829,012. These funds will make it possible for the Exploreum to refurbish its primary traveling exhibit gallery next year. Over the past 25 years, the exhibits have drawn millions of visitors to the Exploreum and Mobile. School groups and guests from across the Greater Gulf Coast have visited the Exploreum to tour them, and they teach on conservation, local wildlife awareness, coastal erosion and preservation, and more. Construction on the gallery is set to start in July 2025, and it is to open in spring 2026 with the premier of an exhibit on Galileo. It is to better accommodate memorable science, technology, engineering and mathematics learning opportunities that include Exploreum-led educational programming, demonstrations and guest lectures.
