Gulf Shores Approves $131 Million For New High School

The City of Gulf Shores has approved a construction contract for $131 million to build a new high school, WKRG reported. Gulf Shores Board of Education Vice President Kevin Corcoran said of the project that “three-plus years of hard work has gone into this planning stage, and the city council appreciates what we are doing, and tonight, they and the community showed it,” Corcoran said. The current high school is only suitable for a little more than 500 students, but considering the rapid growth of Gulf Shores, the new school will be built for more than 1,500. Beyond higher capacity, additional amenities to be built include a band room, an auditorium, two gymnasiums, meeting rooms, a wrestling room and athletic facilities with dressing rooms for every sport. Auburn-based Rabren General Contractors is to complete the 287,000-ft2 building in time for the 2026 school year.
