Gulf Shores Elementary Addition Approved

GULF SHORES, Ala. — A new eight-room addition to Gulf Shores Elementary School should be open for students by the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year following action by the city council, Gulf Coast Media reports. The council has voted to approve the bid of Ben M. Radcliff Contractor, Inc. of Mobile to build the addition at a cost of nearly $4.15 million. The company was the lowest of three bidders on the project, with submissions ranging up to $4.27 million. The sum is expected to enable the total project to be completed at $5.4 million, $500,000 under its budget. The project is part of a series of improvements Gulf Shores has made since the city took over the school system in 2019. It will add 12,300 ft2 of classroom space to the school, which has seen the addition of nearly 200 students since Gulf Shores began its own school system in 2018.
