Local Schools Named Finalists In National STEM Competition

Gulf Shores High School (GSHS) and Mobile-based Clark-Shaw Magnet School and Phillips Preparatory Middle School have been selected as finalists for Samsung’s annual Solve for Tomorrow science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) competition and earned spots among the 300 finalists with the potential to earn $100,000 in Samsung prize packages, Gulf Coast Media reported. Each won a $2,500 Samsung technology prize package for being named finalists. Prizes valued at more than $2 million will be awarded to U.S. schools by the end of the competition. The next steps in the competition sees teachers submitting a plan for how students will execute their STEM-based projects, such as GSHS’s self-balancing bicycle. This will include project goals, objectives and how their ideas will impact their communities. The objectives are due by January 9, 2025, and 50 state winners will be announced in March 2025. These will receive $12,000 in Samsung technology, as well as a Samsung video kit to record pitches for their projects.
