MCPSS To Build Two Schools In West Mobile
MOBILE, Ala. — The Mobile County Public School System (MCPSS) is to build two new schools in West Mobile to combat overcrowding, NBC15 reports. A high school and a middle school are part of the plan to deal with the area’s continued growth. They are to be built somewhere near Calvert Road, Lumpkin Road and Airport Boulevard. Students from the Baker schools and Causey Middle School will be among those who fill it. Additionally, "There will be some coming from Semmes Middle School and from Mary Montgomery to reduce the size," said Dr. Bill Foster of MCPSS. "When you’re approving preliminary plans for [300-, 400- and] 500-home subdivisions, then you also have to think about the infrastructure and the school system and public safety, as well.” There is no construction timeline yet, but approximately 40 acres have been donated to help with the cost of the schools, Dueitt added.
