UM Awards Moore, Burnett

The University of Mobile (UM) has awarded the 2024 Samuel Boykin Medal of Excellence to 2002 alumnus Ronald G. Moore. Moore serves as a member of the UM Board of Trustees and is a principal market specialist with Alabama Power Co. The award was established in 2019 to honor the life of the late Samuel M. Boykin, the first African American UM graduate. It acknowledges exceptional African American graduates of the Christian university who reflect the humility Boykin exemplified throughout life. In addition to his MBA from UM, Moore holds a BA in marketing from Talladega College. He is active in the Christian Business Men’s Connection, Mobile Law Enforcement Foundation, Mobile Chamber Growth Alliance Task Force and Jubilee Youth Service & Leadership Academy. UM also presented the alumni of the year award to outgoing university president Dr. Lonnie Burnett, a 1979 UM graduate who also served as a professor, dean and senior administrator during his 20-year tenure with the university. The award has been named in his honor; the Dr. Lonnie Burnett Alumni of the Year Award will be presented annually to an outstanding alumnus.
