UM Extends President’s Contract

The University of Mobile (UM) recently announced it has extended the contract of Dr. Lonnie Burnett, its president, through 2026. Burnett was named the fifth UM president in November 2019, when he led the university as it “quickly adjusted to the new reality, reevaluated business models and practices, reduced expenses, added academic programs, completed new construction and major facility renovations, developed new corporate partnerships and strengthened its vision” at the beginning of the pandemic, UM said. Burnett, a 1979 graduate of UM (then Mobile College), had a 25-year career teaching history in the Mobile County Public School System and has since served the university for 18 years as a professor, dean and administrator.
