UM’S Athletic Training Program Accredited

The Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program at the University of Mobile (UM) has been granted initial accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Program Director Dr. Melissa Thomas said the MAT program’s first graduating class will be awarded degrees on May 6. CAATE peer reviewers completed a comprehensive onsite review of the program in January. Thomas said the peer review team cited program strengths during its exit interview including small cohort sizes ideal for maintaining exceptional didactic and clinical learning experiences, a variety of quality clinical experiences across multiple patient care settings for all students and exceptional simulation and collaboration through interprofessional education with nursing programs. The program’s advanced simulation facilities provide students with simulation experiences, often through high-fidelity mannequins and equipment.
