Decisions Made at Mobile County School Board Meeting

Mobile County School Board members approved a 1.5% step raise for the 2020-2021 fiscal year in an October 26 meeting, Call News reports. Additionally, an agreement with the University of South Alabama (USA) was revised. In it, the university will transfer $100,000 to the county system to be used for the purchase of Google Chromebooks. In another agreement with USA, its Children’s and Women’s Hospital will provide three full-time teachers, one paraprofessional and a board hospital teaching administrator to facilitate county school services for students with disabilities. A contract was approved with Presence Learning, Inc. to provide services by a licensed clinician and access to its proprietary online platform for K-12 special education students. Finally, presentations were given, including from District 4 Commissioner Robert Battles, who has served since 2014. He said he is retiring this month and will not seek reelection.
