Mobile County Teachers Win Grants

Two Mobile County teachers were awarded hundreds of dollars each by the College Football Playoff Foundation, Mobile’s LendingTree Bowl and the University of South Alabama in an effort to help further education, FOX10 reported. Murphy High School history teacher Krystle Smith and Phillips Preparatory School science teacher Darlene Castelin were surprised with checks on September 14. The grants are part of the foundation’s Extra Yard program, which will award grants to 10 more teachers during the Lending Tree Bowl on December 18. Smith was chosen for a unique educational style, in which she ties local and world history together. Castelin received $550 to enhance her school’s outdoor classroom.
