$45 Million Earmarked For Improvements In Mobile, Baldwin Counties

Baldwin and Mobile counties and the University of South Alabama (USA) have received more than $45 million for improvement projects across the Gulf Coast, according to WKRG. The funding comes from the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) and funds projects that “focus on environmental education and outreach, boating access, water quality improvements, recreational access improvements and other important projects.” The projects include the Gulf State Park Campground ($5 million); renovation at the Daphne Recreation Center ($4 million); the Mobile Riverfront Phase I amendment ($4 million); the Gulf Shores Waterway Village pedestrian park ($3,606,465); the City of Mobile Brookley by the Bay: Southern Activation Zone ($3.5 million); Baldwin County Perdido Bay boardwalk and Americans with Disabilities Act improvements ($2,530,000); Satsuma Gunnison Creek kayak boat launch and boardwalk improvements ($2,013,473); the Creola Public Safety building ($2 million); the Mobile County River Delta Marina and Campground ($2 million); Chickasaw Stormwater Rehabilitation Project Phase 2 ($2 million); USA’s Delta and Coastal Alabama Wildlife, Fisheries, and Carbon Flux Observatory ($1.5 million); a Foley nature parks expansion ($1.5 million); and Dauphin Island multi-park access improvements ($1.4 million).
