ALDOT Moving Forward With Bayway Project
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has announced it will be moving forward with the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project prior to knowing the results of outstanding applications for federal Mega Grant and Bridge Investment Program funding, Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson announced. ALDOT will use funds from a $125-million federal Infrastructure for Rebuilding America grant, as well the $250 million the state has already committed to the project. Additionally, ALDOT agrees with the financial experts working on the project that the plan to construct a new bridge is financially viable. This stronger posture is made possible by improvements in projected traffic and revenue numbers for the project as initial estimates have been refined. “This announcement is a clear signal that the State of Alabama is serious about building this much-needed bridge,” Stimpson said. “We are further along in this process than at any point before, and now we have a clear path toward new infrastructure and the opportunities it would provide for our community.”
