City Of Mobile Commits to New DIP Police Precinct
The City of Mobile recently committed to lease a new building for a police precinct on Dauphin Island Parkway (DIP) to serve residents in District 3 of the city. Mayor Sandy Stimpson said he and Councilman C.J. Small have been working toward moving the headquarters for the Mobile Police Department’s (MPD) first precinct from Virginia and Broad streets (which will be closed) for more than two years. To be open by the end of the year, the space will be a large, modern facility with classrooms that will allow the Mobile Police Department to train a third class of police recruits each year. “The classrooms will also be made available to the public as community meeting spaces,” Stimpson added. “Locating a magistrate clerk in the new precinct will also make it more convenient for DIP residents to pay a ticket or get a vehicle inspection without having to come downtown.”
