Details On Daphne’s Multimillion-Dollar Animal Shelter

A firm in Colorado is now designing what Daphne Mayor Robin LeJeune anticipates could be a $3-million project to construct a new animal shelter for the city, WKRG reports. LeJeune added that the city council put $1 million in seed money aside to start the project. The new 10,000-ft2 would create more space and include a filtration system specific to animal shelters. Outdoor covered areas will also be part of the design. The final plans should be completed soon, and construction is to take two to three years. The structure will sit on the same site on Johnson Road, west of Highway 98, where the current building, Dr. Albert Corte Animal Shelter, is located. The current shelter will continue to operate while the new building is constructed. It will then be demolished. Annually, it takes in 800-1,000 animals, approximately one-third of which are adopted, rescued or reclaimed (BBN #39).
