Fairhope, Daphne Halt Some Housing Developments

Fairhope and Daphne are temporarily halting some high-density housing, WEAR reported. Fairhope has extended its pause on applications for multifamily housing and some high-density subdivisions, and Daphne has approved a six-month moratorium on new apartment complex applications. Several apartment complexes have been built in Daphne in recent years, with two more on the way. Two hundred units are planned for the Italian Village development on County Road 64 and Highway 181. Daphne’s City Council approved the moratorium while city leaders rewrote the city’s land use ordinance to better align with its comprehensive plan. Last month, Fairhope’s city council extended its pause on applications for multifamily developments and subdivisions with smaller lots through mid-August. Fairhope is also rewriting parts of its land use ordinance, including rules on lot sizes and residential density, while making sure the city’s infrastructure can keep pace with growth.
