Fairhope Opens $2-Million Art Alley

Fairhope has opened a new “Art Alley” in the heart of Downtown Fairhope off Section Street and behind the Hampton Inn, WKRG reports. Mayor Sherry Sullivan said the mission of the alley is to attract people to the pedestrian area, adding, “We have tried to create a really safe environment day and night, something that has landscaping, that’s very lighted and really featuring all the art so we can make sure people want to go there.” Fairhope native Hannah Legg, who helped paint the murals in the alley, said her inspiration was the natural subject of local wildlife. Some artwork in the alley includes paintings of sea life, murals of botanical gardens and sculptures. Sullivan said there will be more paintings and murals added to this area soon, and she hopes to make the alleyway a full art gallery one day.
