Foley Announces Campus Master Plan

The Foley City Council recently approved a proposal from Goodwyn Mills Cawood to prepare a municipal campus master plan. The plan is to help the city continue efforts to improve services and enhance Foley’s historic downtown area. The plan covers the development of city facilities from Highway 59 east to Juniper Street and from Section Avenue south to Myrtle Avenue. The city opened several municipal facilities in the planning area this summer: the Public Works Campus, the Foley Community Library and the Foley Activity Center. Plans include renovating the former library building next to City Hall into parks department administrative offices and construction of a new Senior Center behind City Hall near the Activity Center. City officials are also developing plans for a new Civic Center. The current center opened in the 1970s at a time when Foley’s population was less than 4,000. Now that Foley has approximately 32,000 residents, it is planning a larger on property north of Heritage Park. Finally, a museum focusing on Foley’s role as a center of U.S. Navy aviation training during and after World War II is planned for the same area as the new Civic Center.
