Foley To Reduce Some Fees For Nonprofits

Nonprofit organizations that provide services in Foley could see a reduction in some city permit fees following action by the Foley City Council. Council members voted to approve a final reading of an ordinance to establish a process for fee reductions for nonprofits. Qualifying agencies could receive a reduction of up to 50% on fees such as zoning, building permits and land development permits. The new ordinance will allow the city to reduce, but not eliminate, costs for some organizations that provide services to the public. It could reduce some fees for groups that provide benefits for residents and the community in areas such as health, safety, welfare, education, housing, social services, recreation and public safety. The ordinance allows city staff members to waive some fees up to $5,000 for registered nonprofit organizations that apply for the reduced costs. Waivers of more than $5,000 would have to be approved by the city council.
