Food Pantries Open In Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. — The City of Mobile recently set up three food pantries in the first, second and third city Council districts, according to Mayor Sandy Stimpson. These food pantries leverage federal funding to expand access to quality food and nutrition through partnerships with local community organizations and Mobile-based nonprofit Feeding the Gulf Coast. The Africatown Food Pantry will be housed in the Robert Hope Community Center (850 Edwards Street) and will be open the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. It is being operated as part of a partnership with Africatown Community Development Corp., led by Cleon Jones, and Yorktown Missionary Baptist Church, which is led by Pastor Christopher L. Williams. Crichton/Toulminville Community Development Corp. is now operating a food pantry in District 1 out of Dotch Community Center (3100 Bank Avenue) that will be open every Wednesday. Finally, the District 3 food pantry is being operated by a partnership between the Revelation/Maysville Community Development Corp. and First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church of Baltimore Street. It will be operating in the Taylor Park Community Center (1050 Baltimore Street) every Friday.
