Four Teams Receive Love Your Community Grants

Four Love Your Community teams were recognized at the July 16 Mobile County Commission meeting with a total of $5,000 in beautification grants earned through time-banked volunteer service hours. Grants of $1,500 each were awarded to RevitalizeDIP and the Mobile Japanese Gardens. Led by Yvette Young, RevitalizeDIP is expanding outreach with new signage to raise awareness about litter pickup and beautification, especially for residents not active on social media. Its previous projects include two pocket gardens along Dauphin Island Parkway (DIP). Led by Don Fry, the gardens team is continuing work on a storage shed for gardening tools, now decorated with a handpainted mural that adds beauty to the grounds during ongoing renovations. Grants of $1,000 each were awarded to Share the Beach Litter Patrol – Dauphin Island and the Satsuma Lions Club. Led by Miranda Radcliff, the litter patrol team picks up litter while patrolling for sea turtle nests. Grant funds will support biodegradable materials to better mark nests and enhance public education efforts. Led by Dany Gray, the lions club team will focus on improvements at maintenance at Satsuma High School. Funded by the commission with support from the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA), the program is operated in partnership with Keep Mobile Beautiful and Clean Water Future. It is championed by Commissioner Connie Hudson.
