Grant For More EV Charging Stations In Baldwin County

Robertsdale, Orange Beach and Fairhope are among 18 Alabama cities selected to share a $2.4-million-plus grant to receive new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, Gulf Coast Media reported. The money comes from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs through the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance. In Robertsdale, $198,267 will be used to install a two-bay charging station at the Baldwin County Commission Annex II on Highway 59. In Orange Beach, Junior Food Stores of West Florida received $216,335 to install a two-bay charging station at the Cumberland Farms convenience store on Canal Road. Fairhope received $148,626 to install a two-bay charging station at Plantation Pointe Shopping Center. The grant requires matching funds, and in Fairhope’s case, the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority, of which the city is a member, has offered to pay the city’s share of the match. The authority also helped install an EV charging station at the Fairhope City Hall parking lot for drivers to use while shopping or visiting downtown.
