Grants To Fight Homelessness Announced

Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded $380,000 to local organizations to fight homelessness. Family Promise of Baldwin County will receive $230,000 to provide emergency shelter services for people in Baldwin County. Penelope House Inc. of Mobile received $150,000 to provide sheltering services for victims in Mobile County. Penelope House will team with Family Promise of Coastal Alabama and McKemie Place Inc. to provide those services. The funds, from the Emergency Solutions Grant program, will assist local governments and nonprofit agencies in providing housing and other related services to homeless people or people facing homelessness, including those who are victims of abuse and must leave their homes to protect themselves or their children. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
