Ground Broken On MFRD Training Center

The Mobile Fire Department (MFRD) commemorated the groundbreaking of its new training center on November 18, WKRG reported. The $1.9-million, 5,800-ft2 training facility will include locker rooms, a testing facility, firefighter gear storage and an onsite emergency vehicle operator course. Classrooms that can hold up to 30 recruits and urban search-and-rescue training props are also included. The work was the first step of a yearlong master plan to revitalize MFRD’s training capabilities, while it continues the process of being recertified as an ISO-1 agency. “Less than 1% of the 44,000 fire departments in the U.S. receive this prestigious rating from the Insurance Services Office,” Mayor Sandy Stimpson explained.
