Gulf Shores Airport Progresses Toward Commercial Flights

Gulf Shores International Airport is one step closer to building a temporary terminal for commercial flights, NBC15 reports. The city council approved a resolution to loan $3 million to the airport authority for the construction of the facility. The loan is a match to a $5-million airport terminal program grant. City of Gulf Shores Director of Recreation and Cultural Affairs Grant Brown said that, for many years, the airport authority and city have been making improvements in preparation for commercial air service. “Plans for construction are this fall, and, hopefully, in late fall of 2025, you’ll see a temporary terminal in place and ultimately have some commercial scheduled air service,” Brown said. The design of the terminal is complete, and the contract is ready to be signed, but it has been a lengthy process to get to this point, he added.
