MAA Becomes Owner, Operator Of St. Elmo Airport

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — The Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) is now owner and operator of St. Elmo Airport in Mobile County, according to the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce. The recently finalized deal includes 738 acres with a 3,998-ft runway, an aircraft parking apron with 25 tie-downs, two hangars and an operational fuel farm. Alabama State Representative Chip Brown of Mobile commented,  “I am looking forward to [MAA] providing quality leadership and management of the St. Elmo Airport. Under the ownership of the MAA, the St. Elmo facility can receive technology and facility upgrades and better serve the needs of the people of South Mobile County.” The airport is approximately 18 mi. from the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley and is mostly for corporate and private aircraft.
