MFRD Earns American Heart Association Award

The Mobile Fire and Rescue Department (MFRD) recently earned national recognition for its efforts to improve treatment of individuals suffering serious heart attacks. The American Heart Association announced that MFRD received the Mission: Lifeline EMS Silver Achievement Award because of improvements emergency medical services (EMS) personnel have made in responding to ST-elevation myocardial infarctions, which are the deadliest type of heart attack and require immediate treatment. The American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline program helps reduce barriers to prompt treatment for heart attacks, starting from when 911 is called, through EMS transport and continuing through hospital treatment and discharge. Optimal care for heart attack patients takes coordination between the individual hospital, EMS and healthcare system.
