Mobile County Awarded Recycling Grant

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — The Mobile County Commission has been awarded grant funding totaling nearly $200,000 from Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) for equipment at the Mobile County Recycling Center at 7450 Hitt Road in Mobile. The center is owned and funded by the Mobile County Commission but managed by Goodwill Gulf Coast. The Alabama Recycling Fund grant will pay for a glass pulverizer, hoppers for loading glass into the equipment, a pad for the equipment and storage space for the pulverized sand and gravel. Once the project is implemented, the center will no longer ship its glass out of state for processing. The glass pulverizer will also help further education efforts about recycling, the commission said, and provide a dynamic learning environment centered on recycling glass for its collaborator, the University of South Alabama Civil Engineering program. Eventually, it will be included in public tours of the facility.
