Mobile County Earmarks $15 Million For Airport

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — The Mobile County Commission recently voted to contribute $15 million toward Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley near downtown Mobile, AL.com reported. A large portion of the funds, $10 million, will go toward road work near the new terminal, and the remainder will be paid in $1 million annual increments directly toward the terminal project. The county’s dedication is half of what the Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) had asked for, but MAA President Chris Curry said he was “thankful” to receive it. The combination of city, county, state and federal funds over four-plus years now total $207 million, which is 82% of the estimated $252 million it will take to build the future five-gate terminal over the next two years.
