Mobile County Preliminarily Awards Affordable Home Contracts

Mobile County commissioners have authorized two preliminary awards of Home Investment Partnerships Program funds of $1.2 million each to Arbors at Miller Creek and Mobile Elderly Housing in support of applications to the Alabama Housing Finance Authority for 2021 tax credits for proposed senior housing developments, Call News reports. The next step for the developers is to go to the Alabama Housing Finance Authority to receive the award. County Director of Grants Management Nayyer Mahdi said Mobile Elderly Housing “has a strong track record,” and that the county has “certainly had a very good experience” with Arbors at Miller Creek. She added that the county “is always wanting to increase affordable housing” to counter “a huge lack” of it. She approximates a total cost of construction at $14 million.
