Mobile County Reboots Down Payment Assistance Program

Mobile County has relaunched its Down Payment Assistance Program with a higher cap to help more low- to moderate-income first-time home buyers become homeowners. The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Home Investment Partnerships Program. Its goal is to increase local homeownership, which is a key factor in stabilizing neighborhoods, increasing social and civic engagement, fostering economic growth and building wealth. Those who meet federally defined requirements may now qualify for up to $25,000 in down payment assistance toward the purchase of a single-family dwelling located in all unincorporated areas of Mobile County, in addition to Bayou La Batre, Chickasaw, Citronelle, Creola, Mount Vernon, Prichard, Saraland, Satsuma and Semmes. Housing within the City of Mobile and the Town of Dauphin Island is not eligible.
