Mobile County Reports Economic Growth

Newly released federal data show Mobile County’s economy continued its strong upward trajectory in 2024, with local real-gross domestic product (GDP) growth totaling approximately $2.046 billion between 2022 and 2024, representing a 9.2% increase over its 2022 level, the county recently announced. The delayed 2024 GDP figures, released following last fall’s federal government shutdown, show Mobile County’s economy grew by $949 million in 2024 alone, bringing total real GDP to $24.3 billion. That represents a 4.06% growth rate for the year, well above both state and national averages. Mobile County accounted for approximately 13% of Alabama’s total economic growth in 2024, ranking second statewide. Among major counties, Mobile County recorded the highest growth rate in 2024. For comparison, Alabama’s overall economy grew 2.95% in 2024, reaching $255.6 billion. “These numbers tell a bigger story than a single year of success,” said Mobile County Commission President Merceria Ludgood. “They reflect sustained county investment and strong collaboration with public and private partners, resulting in broad-based, resilient growth that is reaching communities across Mobile County and laying the groundwork for long-term economic stability for everyone.”
