Mobile, Eastern Shore MPOs Advance Bridge Project

MOBILE, BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. — On July 27, the Mobile and Eastern Shore metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) unanimously voted to advance the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project by including it in their respective Transportation Improvement Plans (TIPs). This represents “the most significant step to date in the renewed effort to build a new bridge to alleviate congestion along Interstate 10,” Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said, adding that it marks the adoption of the Alabama Department of Transportation plan based on the framework laid out by the MPOs last December. It will also allow the project to use the allocated $125 million in federal grant funding, while putting the project in a better position to receive additional federal support.
