Mobile Selected For Love Your Block Program

Mobile Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis announced that Mobile was named one of 25 cities nationwide that will participate in the Love Your Block program led by the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University. Focusing on Africatown and Toulminville, the program will award grants to resident-led projects to help improve local communities. The city will receive $70,000 to engage residents in efforts to clear vacant lots, reclaim public space and better their communities. “In addition to the Capital Improvement Program that invests millions of dollars into infrastructure repairs each year, the Housing Improvement Program is helping to revitalize neighborhoods and provide affordable housing to those who need it,” Cheriogotis said. “In addition, my office has dedicated $1 million to the Critical Repair Grant program, which is helping to repair roofs and allow residents to stay in their homes.”
