More FAA Grants Let

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded eight airports in Alabama a combined $8.29 million in grants for infrastructure and safety improvements and land acquisition, Business Alabama reported. Most – $4.8 million – will go to the Mobile Downtown Airport to rehabilitate an apron. Another local facility, the H.L. “Sonny” Callahan Airport in Fairhope, is receiving $150,000 to acquire land for development. Other airports sharing the remainder of the funds are in Huntsville, Evergreen, Oneonta, Alabaster and Wetumpka. Mobile Airport Authority President Chris Curry said of the Downtown Airport funding, “This project is one more step in improving our facility for future commercial air service, our current tenants and potential economic development opportunities in our region.”
