New Fire Station Planned For Fort Morgan

Plans are underway to build a new community volunteer fire station on the Fort Morgan coast, WPMI reports. To be the first fire station in the area with direct beach access, it would aid Fort Morgan’s volunteer firefighters in covering the roughly 12 mi. of beachfront for which they are responsible. The new building would be located just east of Station 2 on State Road 180 and replace Station 2, which does not have beach access. “To be able to roll up a door and shoot straight to the beach down the county access is going to shave valuable minutes off response times,” Joe Emerson, secretary for the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Board, said. The new building would also be larger to be able to store vehicles and equipment and be able to withstand 165-mph winds. “This could definitely act as a staging point post-disaster, Emerson added. “It would actually have the facilities to host something of that magnitude, instead of what we have now.” Fort Morgan Fire Rescue is waiting on final approval from the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Army Corps of Engineers in anticipation of beginning construction by October.
