New Foley District Boundaries To Affect Many Residents

The City of Foley is updating its city council district boundaries in preparation for the 2025 municipal elections. The council voted to base the new boundaries on the municipal limits as of December 31, 2024. Any areas annexed afterward will not be included in the redrawn districts. The five Foley City Council members serve by district. Each district should have approximately the same number of residents. Foley officials will adjust district boundaries based on population changes recorded in the federal census. Once boundaries are set, any candidate wanting to run for a council seat from that district must be living in it as of May 28, 2025. The last Foley election took place in 2020. In the 2020 census, the city had a population of 20,335. The current population estimate is 26,500, an increase of 30.3%. Municipal elections in Foley and other cities and towns will be held on August 26, with any necessary runoff elections held on September 23.
