Plans Announced For Fairhope Clock Plaza

The City of Fairhope is furthering its tourist appeal with a new project that aims to create a picturesque plaza area surrounding the town’s clock, AL.com reports. The development is taking place on the corner of Fairhope Avenue and Section Street by Fairhope-based Christian Preus Landscape Architecture. “The goal for the project is to soften the property and to incorporate a lot of the landscaping that you already see throughout town,” Fairhope Director of Community Affairs Paige Crawford said. The City of Fairhope and Single Tax Corp. purchased the area in 2019. Mockups provided by the city show new landscaping and seating areas. The Fairhope clock will gain a brick base surrounded by flower beds, and the entire plaza features a circular cement pattern. “The radial nature of the site design is reflective of the circular forms of the intersections throughout downtown Fairhope and pays homage to the Fairhope clock,” Crawford added. The project is to be completed by the end of the year.
