Program Manager Picked For Brookley Terminal

The Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) has chosen Birmingham-based Hoar Program Management to oversee the $250-million project of creating a new airport terminal complex near downtown Mobile, AL.com reported. Commercial flights would leave from there instead of Mobile Regional Airport, and the new complex would be international. “There will be commercial flights out of the Brookley Airport in downtown Mobile by Summer of 2024,” Mayor Sandy Stimpson explained. “This will ultimately bring lower fares, more direct flights, increased tourism, new economic development opportunities and a more convenient air travel option for our entire region.” The core cost of the new terminal and parking deck at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley is estimated at $160 million. MAA President Chris Curry said the $250-million figure includes such things as the relocation of some current Brookley tenants, the expansion of runway aprons and infrastructure such as the expansion of nearby roads. Hoar will oversee this from its office on Perimeter Road at the Brookley Aeroplex and earn $4.6-$5 million for its work. The next task for MAA board members is to consider the terminal’s design, part of which will include “field trips” to modern airports to get ideas about design elements.
