Rich, Cochran To Resign

Mobile County District Attorney Ashley Rich and Sheriff Sam Cochran recently announced they will not seek four-year terms in office in 2022, AL.com is among outlets to report. Rich won the last open seat race for district attorney in 2010, when she was elected to replace retiring District Attorney John Tyson, Jr. Cochran was appointed sheriff in June 2006 by then-Gov. Bob Riley to fill the unexpired term of former Sheriff Jack Tillman and was elected that November. Cochran, who has been in law enforcement for 48 years, intends to stay in the city and consider advisory roles, while working to further the City of Mobile’s annexation efforts. Rich, who has been a prosecutor for more than 25 years, is hopeful she can continue working within the district attorney’s office as a prosecutor. Candidates have until January 28 to file for running in this year’s elections.
