SARPC Names Piper Assistant Executive Director

Tom Piper was recently named assistant executive director at the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission (SARPC). Piper has served SARPC for nearly two decades, most recently as director of transportation planning. His career in regional planning began in 2001 with the Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments, where he held roles as a cartographer, community planner and grant writer before advancing to director of transportation planning for the Shoals Metropolitan Planning Organization. In 2006, he relocated to Mobile to join SARPC and eventually became the director of transportation planning in 2022. Over the years, he has helped advance multimodal transportation strategies, foster regional collaboration and support sustainable development across South Alabama. He is a graduate of the University of North Alabama with a bachelor’s in professional geography.
