USACE Headquarters To Be Built On Civic Center Property

FD Stonewater has announced it will soon be breaking ground on a new regional headquarters for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on the site of the Mobile Civic Center, according to Mayor Sandy Stimpson. This roughly 190,000-ft2 office will sit on the southeast portion of the property near Claiborne and Canal streets. It will house multiple divisions of USACE, while accommodating the agency’s future growth and consolidating hundreds of its employees in a central location in Downtown Mobile. The Mobile City Council has already approved funding for a 1,000-car parking garage to be located adjacent to the new building. This will provide parking for USACE employees, help free up the existing parking area for future development and create a source of city revenue as the city continues to develop a plan to update the property.
