Veterans Recovery Resources (VRR) Beginning Renovation

Veterans Recovery Resources VRR of Mobile will start work on a $6.5-million Detox & Residential Treatment Center within the next 60 days. VRR bought two blighted buildings on 3 acres on Spring Hill Avenue near Kennedy Street in 2018 and is nearly ready to start phase 1 of work to stabilize and restore them. Founder and Executive Director John F. Kilpatrick said VRR’s primary goal is to create a clinically managed detoxification and residential treatment program to help male veterans, first responders and service members in South Alabama. Focusing on suicide prevention, the center is to have 20 beds and give aid to 90 men in its first year. “We have worked on plans and funding for the center for the past 11 months,” Kilpatrick said. “Now in the second year of our three-year sustainability plan, VRR is on track and focusing on this second line of effort. It’s important to note there is no detox facility south of Birmingham of any sort in Alabama, and that’s a need we plan to fill. Our clinic at 1156 Spring Hill Avenue is already open with a full range of services.” For more information, see a presentation of VRR’s plans. To volunteer or donate, call 251-405-3677.
