Woods Elected As Mobile Councilmember

Josh Woods, executive director of The Grounds, has won election to the Mobile City Council, representing District 6, AL.com reports. Woods will replace Scott Jones, who resigned suddenly from the council in April. Woods’ district could soon be changing, considering that more than 19,000 West Mobile residents voted to join the city in last week’s annexation referendum (BBN #155). Districts 6 and 7 are poised to shift the most, as they are adjacent to the new areas of the city. Woods, who supported the annexation, said his priorities will be protecting the character of the district’s neighborhoods, public safety, and traffic and infrastructure. He was able to avoid a runoff by clinching more than 50% of the vote.
