Workforce Development Program For Inmates Announced
Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson has announced that the Southwest Alabama Partnership for Training and Employment (SWAPTE) will soon launch a new workforce development program for inmates released from the Mobile County Metro Jail. With support from a $1.5-million federal grant, SWAPTE will work with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office over the next three years to help up to 150 people get the training they need to secure good jobs once they are no longer incarcerated. Stimpson added that the City of Mobile’s Homeless Outreach Team has agreed to support the program by working with any released inmates who may need housing assistance or other services once they’re released. The launch of the program was aided by Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch and his staff.
