Cardiology Associates First In Mobile To Perform Novel AF Treatment

Dr. Chance Witt of Cardiology Associates has performed the first treatment using the Medtronic PulseSelect Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) System to treat atrial fibrillation (AF) in Mobile. The PFA system is a breakthrough technology that uses pulsed electric fields to treat patients with paroxysmal or persistent AF. Recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the PulseSelect PFA system can effectively, efficiently and safely treat both paroxysmal and persistent AF. Ablation, a common treatment option for those with AF, targets the cause of irregular heart rhythms by creating scar tissue and can cause unwanted injury to surrounding tissues. The use of pulsed electric fields through an ablation catheter offers a novel, nonthermal approach by targeting heart tissue to interrupt irregular pathways in the heart and avoid unwanted injury to surrounding tissues. Cardiology Associates has a team of five subspecialty-trained cardiac electrophysiologists treating heart rhythm disorders such as AF.
