Fairhope Team First In U.S. To Join Global Hypertension Study

Cardiology Associates, in collaboration with the team at Thomas Hospital, treated the first patient in the U.S. enrolled in the Global SYMPLICITY Registry (GSR)-DEFINE clinical trial, a major milestone in the fight against uncontrolled high blood pressure. Led by Dr. Stan Thornton, interventional cardiologist and principal investigator, this achievement makes Fairhope the first U.S. site to join more than 250 research centers across 55 countries participating in this international study. The GSR-DEFINE trial is part of the broader Global SYMPLICITY Registry, the largest study of its kind evaluating the long-term safety and effectiveness of the Symplicity Spyral renal denervation system. The procedure targets overactive nerves near the kidneys that influence blood pressure, offering a potential solution for patients who haven’t found success with medication or lifestyle changes alone. The Symplicity Spyral system is a minimally invasive, catheter-based therapy that delivers controlled radiofrequency energy to quiet nerve signals contributing to high blood pressure. The technology is approved for use either alone or alongside other treatments.
