Infirmary Health Adds New Breast Screening

The Breast Centers at Mobile Infirmary and Thomas Hospital are now offering a new screening procedure for women with dense breast tissue – the Invenia ABUS 2.0 Whole Breast Ultrasound from GE Healthcare – according to a post on Facebook. This is the only Food and Drug Administration-approved ultrasound screening device for women with dense breast tissue, providing a comfortable and relatively short exam without additional radiation. Women with dense breast tissue are at a four to five times higher risk of developing breast cancer than women without dense tissue. Additionally, in dense breast tissue, mammography screening alone misses more than one-third of breast cancers.
